What is a sworn translator?

A Sworn Translator is a translator authorized by the Supreme Court of the State (in this case the State of Quintana Roo) or by the Federal Supreme Court. A Sworn Translator is authorized to prepare certified or official translations (with legal validity) in the state or country where he/she has been granted this authorization.

How can you find an expert translator in Cancun or in the State of Quintana Roo?

If you are in the State of Quintana Roo and you want to submit a document issued abroad for a procedure in this state, you will need an official or certified translation made by sworn translator included in the list of sworn translators of the State of Quintana Roo. What about sworn translations made in Mexico to be used in other countries?

Sworn translators may also translate Mexican documents for procedures abroad. In this case, it is important to take into account that a translation made in Mexico for use in another country will generally not be accepted for procedures with governmental institutes or authorities in other countries. When you are going abroad, it is important to check that the authorities to which you are going to submit your translation will accept translations made in Mexico and if there are any special requirements (e.g. if it is necessary to apostille or legalize the translation). There is usually no problem when it comes to work or study related purposes, but for procedures such as visas, residence, immigration, etc., it is better to have your documents translated by an authorized translator in the receiving country or state.
